CAMP in NICHINAN

CAMP in NICHINAN

90% of Nichinan’s surface area is forested. Let’s camp in the forest!

90% of Nichinan’s surface area is forested. Indeed, in gazing about, one can only see mountains, trees, and forests. It is impossible not to have fun in such an environment.
With my tent and camp-fire kit, I started off and arrived in a place that was surrounded by trees. It was quiet and peaceful ─ almost as if I was alone in the world. Camping amongst a merry company is much fun. However, going out alone is not bad either ─ as is having a spontaneous camping trip with an intimate friend. You don’t have to stay for the evening. It’s perfectly fine to make your way at noon and return home in the afternoon. You are free to do whatever you wish here, as long as you follow the most basic rules. You can read to your heart’s content or eat as much barbequed meat as you please. If there are no other campers around you, you can sing out loud and lie on the ground without causing a fuss. How short a day can be! There is so much to be done in the woods of Nichinan!
Oh, that’s right. Should the weather be fine the coming weekend, I think I’ll venture out with my hammock and coffee kit to have an afternoon nap out in the open.

Shuttateyama Camping Ground is municipally managed by the Nichinan Forestry Department.
The area is populated by Manchurian walnut trees. It is rare to find them growing in such abundance in mountainous areas, as in Nichinan, since they tend to favor the flatter plains. It may be said that the walnut tree forests of Nichinan are the most spectacular of Western Japan.
Shuttateyama Camping Ground is notable for its Manchurian walnut forests, deciduous forests, and planted forests, and abounds in much vegetation. The place is perfect for a nature walk and char may be caught in the beautiful mountain stream.
While there are only minimal facilities available in the camping ground, you will be able to enjoy the wonders of nature at a low cost and without being hurried for time.
